15. Area of Punjab is divided into 3 regions:
  • Malwa is a region lies between river Satluj in the north and river Ghaggar in the south. The region spreads over 14 districts: Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, Mansa, Patiala, Mohali, Moga, Muktsar, Ludhiana, Ropar and Fatehgarh Sahib. Malwa is also famous for cotton farming.
  • Majha(Upper Bari Doab) is a historical region of the Indian Punjab comprising the modern 4 districts of Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran. It is bounded by River Ravi in the west and River Beas in the east and Satluj in the south.
  • Doaba (Bist Jalandhar Doab) is the region of Indian Punjab between the rivers Beas and Sutlej. The name "Doaba" literally translates to "land between two rivers" ("Do" two, "Ab" river; Punjabi).The 4 cities in Doaba are Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Kapurthala.
